Although there are far fewer people cramming into airplanes and visiting relatives this year than usual, traditionally this is the busiest travel day of the year. With a nod to years past and a hope for safer travel days ahead, today’s writing prompts are all about maps. Happy Thanksgiving!
- If your brain — or the brain of one of your characters — were a tangible, physical place, what would it be like?
- Draw a map of the neighborhood where you grew up. Where did your friends live? Your enemies? Where did you play or ride your bike? Mark spots where you remember, crying, laughing or feeling afraid. Give the map as much detail as possible. Then write.
- Write a scene in which your character finds a “treasure map” (either literal or metaphorical) and decides to follow it.
