In Episode 45 of Literary Prospects, we talk with author Madeline Martin about her new novel, The Booklover’s Library.
Madeline is a New York Times, USA Today, Publisher’s Weekly, and internationally bestselling author of historical fiction and historical romance with books that have been translated into over twenty-five different languages. She lives in Florida with her two daughters, two incredibly spoiled cats and a man so wonderful he’s been dubbed Mr. Awesome. A die-hard history lover who will happily lose herself in research any day, Madeline also loves to travel, attributing her fascination with history to having spent most of her childhood as an Army brat in Germany.
In this interview, Madeline talks about the real-life English library that inspired the The Booklover’s Library (and the odd law that had women refusing to get married so they could keep working there!), what draws her to historical fiction, why she felt compelled to explore the stigmas and challenges of single motherhood in this book, how she builds out her characters, and much more.
